Library Board agrees to accept bid for used Bookmobile

It looks that soon the old Bookmobile, that for 18 years served the Jackson Parish Library (JPL)  before being replaced with a newer version last year, will ride again! This came closer to a fruition on Thursday, February 15th when the Library Board of Controls in a special called meeting agreed to accept the bids that had been submitted for it’s purchase.

The special meeting was necessary because bids that had been received fell below the $20,000.00 threshold that had been set and in order to sale the Bookmobile at a lower price it had to be approved by the board.

“We had gotten several bids which all came in below what we had advertised as the minimum price to be considered for the Bookmobile,” said JPL Director, Floyd Knox. “After months went by with no bids reaching the threshold we had set, we decided to lower our acceptance price to the amount of the highest bidder from what we had received.”

The highest bid that has been received is $15,000.00 from the Library in Union County, Arkansas. Director Knox is currently in negotiations to complete the sale but if that doesn’t materialize the board has contingencies for that as well.

“We are expecting the sale with the Library in Union County to take place soon but in order to be in the position to sale the Bookmobile as soon as possible, the board also agreed to allow the next highest bidder authorization to purchase in event the sale to the highest bidder fell through,” continued Knox.

In additional business the JPL credit card policy was updated to add that the purchase of postage for library related mailings can be applied to the general credit card. The board also heard an update on the meeting that was held with the Jonesboro-Hodge High School Student Council and board member Paula Essmeier.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the JPL Board of Controls is set for April 15, 2024
library related mailings can be applied to the general credit card.
