Quitman’s Horton and King take two firsts at Rayville High Invitational 2024

Quitman High School opened their 2024 outdoor track season in fine fashion this past Friday by winning five events, and finishing in second and third two times more at the Rayville High Invitational.

The effort was made even more impressive by the fact that Quitman was the smallest school competing among the 15 schools that hailed from northeast Louisiana and southern Arkansas.

While no team totals were published the Wolverines scored points in 13 of the 23 running events that were fielded, including 8 of the 11 girls running events and 5 of the 12 boys running events.

Kaleigh King and Gage Horton had an especially good meet with King winning both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles in girls competition and Horton winning the 1600 and 3200 meter runs for the Wolverines. Nathan Harvey also turned in an impressive showing by winning the 300 meter hurdles and finishing 2nd in the 100 meters. Emayshia Wiley came in second place in the 200 meter dash and Morgan Cheatwood was another to score in two events, coming in 3rd in the 3200 meters and 4th in the 1600 meter run. Taylor Borland finished fourth in the 100 meter hurdles and the girls 4×400 and 4×200 meter relay team came in fifth and sixth place respectively. The boys 4×100 meter relay team also finished in sixth place.

QHS will next be in action at the Many Tiger Small School Meet on March 7th.
