Quitman’s Kaleigh King named MileSplit LA Performer of the Week

Kaleigh King (l), shown alongside QHS track coach Cindy Pardue (r), won five events in two meets.

By virtue of her three impressive victories in the Raising Cane’s Small School Track Classic in Many, and two more victories at the Castor Invitational, Kaleigh King has been named the MileSplit LA Performer of the Week.

The prestigious award marks the second time this year that QHS has had a track athlete honored with the designation, following Bryan Lay being named such during the indoor season.

With her victories in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, King led the Lady Wolverines to five first place finishes, four seconds and four third place showings. Emayshia Wiley won the 100 meters to lay claim as fastest woman in the meet while A.J. Gray took the discus and QHS won the 4×200 relay event.

The QHS boys team also fared well with four gold and six bronze medal performances, including victories in the 110 and 300 meter hurdles by Nathan Harvey. Indoor state champion, Lay, won the pole vault to maintain his #1 ranking state ranking and Asher Shultz took first in the javelin.

Weston High won three events and came in second three times with Nathin Wages winning the long jump, Ronneica Kimble taking the 200 meters and the Lady Wolves racing to victory in the 4×100 relays.
