D’Arbonne Woods parlayed a walk, single, double and an error to jump out to a 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning. That would be all the runs that Cali Deal would allow as the senior settled down to give up just one more hit the rest of the way while striking out 13 over the final six innings.
For five innings it looked like the 2-0 lead might hold up, but in the end it wasn’t enough.
In the top of the sixth, the vaunted QHS offense finally came to life plating five runs on the strength of singles by Maggie Guyotte, Deal, Kinsley Ponder, Karly Huckaby and Anna Leach and a three run home run by Hallie Kate Pullig. Zoee Williams would chip in with a double on the day as well.
The 5-2 victory improved the Lady Wolverines record to 23-4 and secured their top ranking in Division V for the sixth consecutive week. D’Arbonne Woods, ranked #12 in Division III among “select” school, fell to 12-12 on the year.
