Reasoning

“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool (Isaiah 1:18 KJV).”

That’s a very familiar verse to lovers of scripture. Pastors frequently quote it in Christmas sermons due to its timely reference to snow. It once triggered one of my favorite Proverbs passages.

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths (Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV).”

Can you follow my reasoning?

The LORD invites us to reason together with him. Yet, Solomon warns us against leaning on our own understanding. He had a good reason.

I can’t reason; can’t think straight without the Holy Spirit.

We must have spiritual insight; discernment.

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:14 KJV).

God equips me with supernatural reasoning.

“For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16 KJV).”
