
Rowena (Stewart) Weaver
February 10, 1930 – October 19, 2024
Rowena Weaver, age 94 of Jonesboro, ascended to her Heavenly home while surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday, October 19, 2024. She graduated from LA Tech with a Bachelor’s in music. She and her husband Benny loved to travel together in their motor home. They made many long lasting friendships in their travels. Ms. Rowena enjoyed adventure and especially loved to fish. She also loved her family dearly and enjoyed time visiting with them. Ms. Rowena taught piano for over four decades. She spent many years teaching piano at schools and in her own home.
Those left to cherish her memory is her sister, Connie (Stewart) Morvant; nephew, Michael Morvant and wife Kim; niece, Michelle (Morvant) Garner and husband Jerry; great nieces, Sienna Morvant, Renee’ Morvant; beloved caregiver for many years, Pam Trosclair and husband Paul; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benny Weaver; parents, Averett and Blanche (Walker) Stewart; brother, Arville “A.O.” Stewart; sister in law, Martha Stewart; brother in laws, Henry Morvant, Richard Hosey.
Funeral services were held in the Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, October 21st with Pastor Gary Green officiating. Burial followed in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Jonesboro under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home.
Serving the family as pallbearers were Paul Trosclair, Donovan Schultz, Royce “R.D.” Johnson, Wesley Horton, and Scott Garner.
The family would like to extend Special Thanks to Jackson Parish Hospital and the nursing staff for their excellent patient care during her stay and to the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Senior Patrol.
Betty Jewel Stewart
August 22, 1933 – October 20, 2024
Betty “Jewel” Stewart passed away at Forest Haven Nursing Home on Sunday, October 20, 2024. She was 91 years old. Jewel was an excellent shot and avid deer and squirrel hunter; she also enjoyed fishing and loved being outdoors whenever she could. Jewel was known as the “Worm Lady” throughout the area, as she raised fishing worms at her home in Saline. Hundreds of fishermen over the years, made the stop at Jewel’s house in Saline to pick up a mess of worms while on their way to Black Lake. It wasn’t uncommon to see several vehicles lined up under the big sycamore tree to purchase their worms on the “honor system”.
Survivors include her children, Linda Southern (Lloyd) and Billy Stewart; grandchildren, Thad Stewart (Jami), Tami Burnett (Ricky), Melanie Alexander (Justin), Terah Toms (Clay) and Katy Hicks (Casey); great-grandchildren, Tori Stewart, Shad Stewart, Hailey Denis, Ava Toms, Kyler Toms, Gabi Stewart, Maci Hicks, Cole Alexander, MaKenzie Hicks and Harper Alexander; great great-grandchildren, Anslee, Cooper and Greyson Murphy; Alice Stewart; Kaydance and Kamryn Denis.
Jewel was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Hailey B. Stewart; father, Thomas Jeff Dison; mother, Essie (White) Dison; grandson, Ty Stewart; sisters Myrtle Ramsey, Dorothy Racine, Leona Avery and Geneva Dison; brother, Cornelius Dison.
The funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM at Magnolia Baptist on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 with Bro. Stuart Toms officiating. Burial will follow in Old Saline Cemetery.
Serving the family as pallbearers will be Clay Toms, Kyler Toms, Shad Stewart, Billy Lewis, Ricky Burnett and Douglas Madden.
