Anyone who follows high school girls basketball knows that the power among small schools lies in southwest Louisiana. Apparently that still holds true for the 2024 season. Quitman High School found that out in first person this past weekend as they dropped a pair of games to two of the always stronger teams, Plainview and Bell City by 73-37 and 57-19 scores. The losses dropped the Lady Wolverines to 4-3 on the season after Quitman opened the week with a 44-21 victory over neighboring Saline.

Quitman 44 Saline 21 (Tuesday) The Lady Wolverines got defensive to hold homestanding Saline to single digits in all four quarters. The Lady Bobcats had no answer to Cali Deal as she controlled the paint to pour in 24 points to outscore the Lady Bobcats all by herself. Anna Leach scored seven, Taylor Borland finished with four, Jaleigh Burns had three and the trio of Kinsley Ponder, Emma Walker and Allie Robertson all scored two points apiece.

Plainview 73 Quitman 37 (Friday) Cali Deal scored 22 points and Anna Leach added nine to score all but six points made by the Lady Wolverines as Plainview broke out to a 42 – 18 lead and never looked back. Taylor Borland scored four and Allie Robertson tallied two to round out the scoring.

Bell City 57 Quitman 19: A strong defensive effort by Bell City allowed Quitman only 28 shots in the game that saw the Lady Wolverines struggle offensively without leading scorer Cali Deal. Anna Leach led with nine points and Taylor Borland and Brooklyn Brown scored three each. Jaleigh Burns and Allie Robertson scored two each.
