Weston High FFA recognized by Jackson Parish School Board

At their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Monday, December 9th, the Jackson Parish School Board looked to a special person to help guide them next year while also recognizing a special group of people who had a great achievement this past year.

Featured on the agenda was board members selecting Mary Saulters as Vice-President for 2025 and recognizing Weston FFA members, Cejay Colvin, Abel McBride, Collin Shows, Cory Tucker along with their Advisor, Derek Shields for winning Silver Emblem in Floricultural at the FFA National Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Also the board heard from Kristian Sage, Auditor for Kolder, Slaven & Company, LLC and agreed to the following recommendations made by the Executive Finance Committee. 

(1) Approve for payment the following bills: General Fund, Federal Program, School Food Service, Sales Tax, Special Education, District Maintenance bills.
(2) Approve Kolden, Slaven & Company, LLC as auditor for years ending June 30, 2025 at a cost of $54,000, June 30, 2026 at a cost of $55,500; and June 30, 2027 at a cost of $57,000, to be paid from General Fund. The fee estimate for the Statewide AUPs (Agreed upon Procedures) for June 30, 2025, 2026 and 2027 will range from $5,000 to $12,000 each year.
(3) Approve payment of $28,090.64 to Louisiana Delta Community College for Fall Dual Enrollment tuition, to be paid from 2024-2025 Career Development Funds.
(4)Approve the purchase of 6 Opengate metal detectors (TIPS LA991492): 3 at Quitman High School ($52, 309.50), 1 at Weston High School ($17,800.50), 2 at Jonesboro Hodge Middle School ($35,055.00) for a total of $105,165.00 to be paid out of the FY25 School Safety Grant ($85,055), the Stronger Connections Title IV Grant ($17,800.50) and Parish Wide ($2,309.50).
