
The Lady Wolverines of Quitman High School have finished the district 1B season in undefeated fashion. Already having wrapped up the district title the week before, Quitman beat Simsboro 53-23 on Thursday to move to 7-0 in district play.
Now the focus turns to the postseason where the 4th ranked Lady Wolverines puts their 20-9 record on the line against the southwest Louisiana schools who for more than a decade has been the perennial powers of Class B girls basketball.
Also eyeing a long run in the Class B girls playoffs is Weston High School, who finished second in District 1B play at 5-3 and by virtue of their 21-10 overall record have secured a #8 ranking.
Both Quitman and Weston finished the week by winning both of their games and heading into the postseason have the two top highest rankings from schools in north Louisiana in Class B.
Quitman 53 Simsboro 23 (Thursday): By racing out to a 16-6 first quarter lead and a 28-13 advantage at the half, the Lady Wolverines left no doubt about them ending district 1B play in undefeated fashion. Anna Leach led QHS in scoring with 15 points, while Cali Deal chipped in with a “double-double” of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Also coming up big was Taylor Borland who posted 11 points, her second highest scoring total of the season. Hallie Kate Pullig chipped in with six points, Kinsley Ponder finished with four and both Allie Robertson and Jaleigh Burns tallied three points each.
Weston 65 JHHS 42 (Thursday): Carly Jo Griffin scored 18 points and Nadia Siadek posted her second “double-double” in the last three games with 11 points and 10 rebounds to lift Weston to the victory over their Jackson Parish foe. After the two schools separated by just a few miles played to a 14-13 Weston advantage in the first quarter, the Lady Wolves took control by outscoring JHHS 14-4 in the second quarter and 21-4 in the third frame. Briley Peterson and Anslee Aldy also had big games with 16 and 11 points respectively. Rachel Bandy chipped in with five points and Carlynn Waters added three.
Quitman 59 Choudrant 27 (Tuesday): it was over early as Quitman jumped out to a 19-4 first quarter lead and never looked back. Cali Deal led the Lady Wolverines offensive attack with 18 points, followed closely by Anna Leach, who had 17. Kinsley Ponder also had a great game, scoring a new career high of six points as did Jaleigh Burns. Hallie Kate Pullig finished with five, and Braelyn Patton, Emma Walker, and Taylor Borland all scored two points each. Allie Robertson also added a free throw.
Weston 58 Doyline 30 (Tuesday): The Lady Wolves expected not to have any trouble from the 1-23 Doyline team and they didn’t. Briley Peterson scored 24 points and pulled down 9 boards to lead the WHS offense with Carly Jo Griffin chipping in with 12 and Anslee Aldy adding 9 points. Jakayla Fourd and Carlynn Waters finished with four each and Nadia Siadek scored 3 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.

Quitman boys fall to Simsboro in District 1B championship game
A capacity crowd had the gymnasium rocking at Quitman High School on Thursday and for three quarters the Wolverines were giving first place Simsboro all they could handle in their attempt to forge a tie in the district 1B title chase before faltering late in the 71-56 loss.
With the district championship on the line, Quitman and Simsboro, the 5th and 6th ranked teams in Class B, had battled back and forth with Simsboro taking a 17-9 first quarter lead only to see Quitman come storming back to grab a 29-27 advantage at the half.
By the end of the third quarter, Simsboro had re-established a slim 49-46 lead but then the Tigers from Lincoln Parish took control, by scoring 10 straight points down the stretch to win their 10th straight and secure the 1B title with a 6-0 record. Quitman, who now stands at 22-5 on the year ends the 2024-25 campaign in second place in the district chase with a 5-2 record with a makeup game against Doyline still scheduled to be played on February 18th. Noah Leach led Quitman with 13 points followed by 11 and 9 points from Taden and Larsen Thomas. Brayden Smith scored 8, Brayden Martin added 7 an Abel Leach chipped in with 6 points. Payton Nomey also added a basket.
