Quitman baseball goes extra innings on Tuesday for first win of the year

Jake Potts hit a two-out single to left field that scored Hudson Pullig, who had drawn a one out walk, from second base in the bottom of the 8th inning to give Quitman a 2-1 victory over D’Arbonne Woods on Tuesday at Quitman High School.

The victory will be remembered as the first ever for new head coach Chris Womack and improved the Wolverines record to 1-4 on the year. D’Arbonne Woods Charter fell to 1-2 on the year.

The first four innings was a scoreless pitchers duel before D’Arbonne Woods pushed a run across in the top of the fifth after a walk, sacrifice fly and the first hit of the game given up by Quitman hurler Kace West.

The Wolverines tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when West singled, stole second base and came in on a single by Tucker Newton, who gained his first RBI of his career.

D’Arbonne Woods threatened to take the lead again in the top of the 7th inning with a single up the middle with a runner on second base, but centerfielder Jayden Harts through a bullet to catcher Hudson Pullig to get the runner at the plate.

Once again, the Timberwolves threw a scare into the Wolverines in the top of the 8th inning by hitting a one out double and coaxing a walk but Hayden Davis, who earned the win in relief, ended the threat by striking out a batter and enticing a ground out setting up Potts heroics in the bottom of the frame.
