Officially the mascot for Quitman High School is a Wolverine. You will find the fierce looking, blue and gold, portrayal of the member of the Mustelidae family, which has a reputation for ferocity and strength out of proportion to its size, on social media outlets, printed material and all over the QHS campus.
The caricature of the QHS Wolverine is all you will ever see as not only are Wolverines vicious and unsafe to handle, they don’t do well in this part of the world, instead finding domicile in the forests and tundra of Northern Canada and Alaska.
Quitman High School did have a “live” mascot that roamed the campus though. Totally unlike the official version, this one was known for her friendly attitude and putting smiles on peoples faces.
The word “did” is emphasized here as all involved with QHS has a heavy heart today as they mourn the loss of their honorary school mascot, a dog named “Olivia”, who was owned by the Kennedy family but made the school campus her home.
“Olivia was more than just a dog – she was a source of joy, comfort, and countless smiles for everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. From greeting students with her wagging tail to bringing warmth to our school, Olivia held a special place in our school community. Her gentle spirit and unwavering loyalty will never be forgotten. Rest easy, sweet girl. You will always be a part of us.” – QHS Administration
