Webster Parish was unkind to Weston earlier this week as trips to Minden on Monday and Tuesday for games against Glenbrook Academy and Minden High resulted in losses. The good news is that the Lady Wolves have an opportunity to square things later this week as they will travel to just south of Minden to play Sibley on Thursday and then host Minden on Friday.
Glenbrook 7 Weston 0: Carly Jo Griffin, Brylee Cuthrell and Tessa Reeves hit singles but that was all the offense Weston to muster against the 9th ranked team among “select” schools in Division IV.
Minden 12 Weston 11 (10 innings) After three innings, Weston held a 10-9 lead, but the bats suddenly went silent as the Lady Wolves managed only a run in the top of the seventh to take a 11-10 lead only to see Minden tie the game in the bottom of the seventh and then win it in the bottom of the 10th inning on three straight singles. Three straight base hits by Carlynn Waters, Davynee Bearden and Carly Jo Griffin to open the game followed by a walk to Rachel Bandy and two more singles by Molly Beaubouef and Brylee Cuthrell gave Weston a 3-0 lead. Minden would rally to take a 4-3 lead but the Lady Wolves would come right back to plate six in the second for a 9-4 advantage. Waters once again got things started with a single, followed by a Griffin double and singles from Bandy and Beaubouef to allow Weston to retake the lead at 5-4. Cuthrell then hit a single setting up the big blow of the frame, Anslee Aldy’s first home run of the season, three run shot over the center field fence. Weston would go up 10-6 in the top of the third when Beaubouef ripped a double that scored Waters who had walked. The Lady Wolves had a shot to win it in the top of the seventh when Tessa Reeves singled and scored on a passed ball with two outs but a home run by Leigha Kennon Gilbert, who hit for the cycle in the contest tied the score, setting up her scoring her 5th run of the game in the 10th inning to saddle Weston with the loss.
