It is the purest form of competition where no score is kept, no outs are recorded and positive reinforcement is given on each and every pitch, at bat and in the field. It is the Legacy League where 21 players from the ages of 4-18 with physical, developmental, or cognitive exceptionalities are placed on two teams and given the opportunity to play baseball in a fun-filled environment under volunteer assistance.
Volunteers play a big part in the games each week, offering as much or as little help as the player needs or wants. Sometimes it will be just guidance or positive reinforcement needed, while other times more physical help may be required.
Games are played each Monday evening at 5:30 pm on Field 3 of the Jackson Parish Recreation Department Sports Complex, located at 5254 Hwy 4, just east of Jonesboro.
This week it was the Quitman High School Cheer Group that buddied up with the players. If you have a group that would be interested in volunteering to assist with play, as Full Gospel Church and the United Pentecostal Church Youth Group did this week, please contact Christy.lenard@jpsbschools.us. Individual volunteers are also welcome and appreciated. Please include the date your group will be available to volunteer and the estimated number of people that will be assisting.
