Blessings Just Keep Coming! Jonesboro awarded additional funds by state

Financial blessings for the Town of Jonesboro have been awarded to the Town of Jonesboro once again. Mayor James “Spike” Harris made the welcome announcement on a Facebook post on Tuesday, August 19th.

According to Harris, the town will receive a pair of financial awards totalling $3.635 million that will be designated for the building of a sewage treatment plant and road repair.

Breaking the financial gain down shows that $3.6 million will be received from Phase 2 of the Water Sector Program that was approved by the State Legislature under Act 497 during the 2024 regular congressional session. The $35,000 will come from state appropriations.

“We are very happy to learn that we will be receiving the funds, which will be very beneficial in helping us improve the infrastructure of the town,”  said Harris. “The $3.6 million will be earmarked for building a new sewage treatment plant that will help alleviate problems associated with the south sewage pond on Industrial Drive and the north pond located west of Hwy 167 and north of Jonesboro-Hodge High School.”

Harris was also complimentary of State Appropriations Committee Chairman and local Congressional District 13 representative Jack McFarland, who continues to find money for Jonesboro and Jackson Parish, this time $35,000.00 that will be applied to street repairs.

“We are thankful to Representative McFarland for what he has done for Jonesboro in the past and what he continues to do today,” said Harris. “His assistance has been a tremendous help to all our residents.”
