Tigers to Host Arcadia for Homecoming Contest on Friday
Jonesboro-Hodge High School will celebrate Homecoming 2025 this Friday when the Tigers play host to Arcadia for a District 1-1A battle at Caldwell-Peacock Stadium on the JHHS campus. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm
The Tigers enter the contest after winning their last two games to even their season record at 2-2, while Arcadia comes into the contest with a 1-3 mark. Both are among four teams that sit atop the early district standings, along with Haynesville and Cedar Creek, with a 1-0 record after the Tigers beat Lincoln Prep 36-28 and Arcadia romped over Ringgold by a 46-6 margin last week
Homecoming is always the game that every fan looks forward to each season, as the school activities, parade, tailgating, and class reunions promise a festive atmosphere. Not so for the coaching staff of the football team.
No game on the schedule causes as much angst before kickoff as Homecoming. While all the extracurricular activities that highlight the week are a joy to everyone else, for the coaching staff, it is the bane that can cause a team to not play to its potential.
After leading the Tigers for the past 13 years, JHHS head coach Terrance Blankenship knows full well how the full schedule of events that lead up to the ballgame can cause potential pitfalls that have to be negotiated.
“Keeping the guys focused is the biggest problem as a lot is going on that grabs their attention,” said Blankenship. “With all the extra stuff that they are a part of taking up a lot of their time during the week, it is hard to get their mind on the game.”
Keys to Victory!
1. Must be focused! If early-season play is any indication, JHHS should have no problem with the Hornets, but a lackluster effort could spell doom.
2. Execution! The Tigers have a talent advantage but must execute on both offense and defense.
3. Take advantage of opportunities! A talent, depth, and size advantage will provide JHHS with opportunities to make plays. The Tigers must make good on their opportunities.
