Maxine (Gray) Transue
June 1, 1938 – October 3, 2025


Maxine Transue, a resident of Jonesboro, passed away peacefully in Ruston on October 3, 2025, at the age of 87. A 1956 graduate of Jonesboro-Hodge High School, Maxine devoted her life to caring for her family and home. She found joy in sewing, nurturing her beautiful flower garden, and worshiping the Lord as a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Jonesboro.

Maxine is survived by her son, John Wayne Fitzpatrick; grandson, Kenny Wayne Fitzpatrick; great-grandson, Caden Fitzpatrick; sister, Faye Schmidt; niece, Ann Fitzpatrick Henderson (Sammy); special niece, Melanie (Free) Ford (Todd); daughter-in-law, Paula K. Landreneau (Bob); brother-in-law, Charles Free; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvel and Robbie Gray; Grandparents, John R. and Laura Gray who raised her; first husband, Wayne Fitzpatrick; second husband , George Transue; son, Kenneth Ray Fitzpatrick; sister, Murline Free; and brother-in-law, Bobby Schmidt.

As per Maxine’s wishes, she will be cremated. The family will announce their plans for her memorial service at a later date.

Clifton D. “Cliff” Shows
February 9, 1939 – October 9, 2025

Mr. Clifton “Cliff” Dow Shows, age 86, of Quitman, LA, passed through to Heaven on Friday, October 3, 2025. He was born February 9, 1939, in Jonesboro, LA.

Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, Marbry W. Shows and Avelle Swanner; his wife of 39 years, Jackie Thrift Shows; brothers Clinton Shows, Ray Shows, and Buddy Shows; sister Gladys Reed; and daughter, Tasha Danyal Erb. He is survived by his sisters Shirley Stone, Linda Head Jones, Anita Adams, and Kathy Beech; son Jason Shows and wife Lea Anne; and his daughter, Tay Shows Williams, and husband J.R. Williams. He will also forever be remembered by his three grandchildren, Wade, Drew, and Easton.

Cliff was a long time employee of the papermill in Hodge, LA. He retired from the mill after 43 years of service. Prior to his employment at the papermill, he was a chef for Jackie Gleason. He continued to be the head chef of the family for many years, and was an excellent chef at that. Cliff was an elder in the church at Antioch Cumberland Presbyterian Church, in Quitman, LA. He was well known for his woodworking craftsmanship. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

The family of Mr. Clifton “PopPop” Shows is very grateful for the loving care he received while a resident at Forest Haven Nursing Home.

Memorial service for Mr. Cliff Shows will be held at Antioch Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Quitman, LA, on Thursday, October 9, 2025. Visitation will start at noon, followed by the memorial service at two o’clock. Private burial will follow.
