Quitman sweeps St. Frederick’s in Downs Law Firm Game of the Week

Downs Law Firm Boys Team of the Week!

Quitman High School swept St. Frederick’s of Monroe in girls and boys prep basketball action on Tuesday, earning both squads the designation being the Downs Law Firm Team of the Week. Receiving accolades as Player of the Week was Taden Thomas and Anna Claire Leach. 

The contests that were broadcast on KMLB 107.5 FM and 540 AM radio and streamlined on the K104 Downs Law Firm Friday Night Scoreboard Show were sponsored and presented by Origin Bank. 

In the boys’ battle that pitted two of north Louisiana’s better “small school” against each other, Quitman won 89-67 to improve their record to 12-4, while saddling St. Frederick’s with just their second loss in eight games. Opening the event was the Lady Wolverines running roughshod over St. Frederick’s 48-19 to run their record to 12-6. The Lady Warriors fell to 3-9 on the year. 

Quitman 89 St. Frederick’s 67 (boys): Taden Thomas poured in 25 points on 10 of 17 shooting that included three 3-pointers to equal his career high in scoring and lead five Wolverines that reached “double digits” in points. Close behind was Brayden Martin with 23 points, which included a game-best five 3-pointers, followed by Brayden Smith’s “double-double” effort of 13 points and a season-tying best 10 rebounds. Abel Leach and Shane Reed also scored 10 points each as Quitman made 36 of 69 shots for a season-best field goal percentage average of 52% and a sterling 10-22 (45%) performance from beyond the arc. Kaleb Maxwell chipped in with 6 points and Asher Schultz added a basket to round out the scoring for the Wolverines. 

Quitman 48 St. Frederick’s 19 (girls) With Anna Claire Leach making three straight three pointers and Allie Robertson adding another, the Lady Wolverines raced to a 15-0 lead to open the game and never looked back. The lead ballooned to 47-12 at the end of the third quarter, invoking a running clock the rest of the way. With the impressive victory, QHS won their second straight and improved to 12-6 while St. Frederick’s dropped their fourth in a row to fall to 3-9 this season. Leach, who had 5 three pointers in the contest, and Robertson, who added two more “trifectas,” led the Lady Wolverines in scoring with 17 and 11 points, respectively. Sophia Kleibert also came up big with a perfect 4/4 shooting night to establish a new career high with 9 points scored. Hallie Kate Pullig finished with five, Braelyn Patton scored 3, Taylor Borland tallied 2 and Lily Duck sank a free throw.
