“Home Runs for Hope” fundraiser for St. Jude’s gains momentum across the state

Home Runs For Hope Fundraiser for St. Jude’s is the brainchild of Quitman High School Senior Maggie Guyotte

What started as a great idea for her senior project has now gained publicity and momentum, becoming one of the more popular fundraisers in the state. The idea “Home Runs for Hope” was conceived by Quitman High School senior Maggie Guyotte to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

The original brainchild was to have fans and fellow schools participating in the Quitman Invitational Softball Tournament pledge money for each home run hit during the tournament, which featured 24 of the top softball teams from all over the state. A total of 44 home runs were hit during the tournament.

After hearing about the tremendous idea, 446sports and The Pelican Softball Report streamlined the broadcasting of all tournament games and pledged $10.00 for each home run, raising $440.00, which the production company raised to $446.00, matching their “call name”.

Not only that, Doug Gann, executive producer for 446sports, interviewed Maggie and her father, Brian, about the fundraiser and called on other athletic programs across the state to get behind it with their own pledges.

To date, many more LHSAA athletic programs have incorporated the idea, and a little over $3,000.00 has been raised, with the hope that the goal of raising $5,000.00 or more will be achieved soon.
