Beginning on July 24th, the Jackson Parish School Board will no longer issue student work permits based on a new state law that has shifted the responsibility for issuing minors’ employment permits from schools to employers. As a result, school access to the Louisiana Works Employment Certificate will be permanently discontinued.

Per Act 61, passed during the 2026 Louisiana legislative session, employers will now verify a minor’s age, maintain the required documentation, and issue the certificate through the new Louisiana Works process. If a minor presents an outdated worker’s permit application at a school, please direct them to the new employment certificate or to the Louisiana Works Office of Workforce Development at employmentcertificate@la.gov
