Darren Stevenson of the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office raises his hand in victory at the “Battle of the Badges”
The annual “Battle of the Badges,” where representatives of Police and Fire Departments from across Louisiana squared off in the ring in fifteen boxing matches, took place on Saturday, August 15th, at the Civic Center in Monroe, LA.
In front of a packed arena, Jackson Parish had three competitors featured in the annual fundraising event for “Team Police,” with Darren Stevenson, Shawn Staggs, and Christopher Audirsch representing the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The final results showed that Stevenson won a unanimous decision over Matthew McCaa of the Monroe Fire Department, Staggs fell to Jashown Matthews of the Baton Rouge Fire Department, and Audirsch dropped his match to Brandon Crum of the Ouachita Parish Fire Department after both gave very respectful showings but came up just short on the scorecard.
The biggest winner of all was the kids at MedCamps of Louisiana, as proceeds from the event were devoted to the organization founded in 1987. Congratulations to all who took part in fighting for something bigger than themselves.
