Jonesboro-Hodge High School took to the field for the first time this past Friday against an opponent, as the varsity, junior varsity, and 7th/8th-grade football teams welcomed Delhi High School for a pre-season scrimmage at Caldwell-Peacock Stadium on the JHHS campus.
The contests were competed in different styles, with the varsity playing two 12-minute running-clock quarters, the junior varsity playing two 8-minute running-clock quarters, and the 7th/8th grade teams running 8 plays on offense and 8 plays on defense
With both varsity teams playing it “close to the vest” prior to the season-opening jamborees slated for this coming weekend, neither team managed to score, while the J-H junior varsity gave up a sole touchdown and there was no score in the 7th/8th grade session.
The effort from the Tigers pleased the JHHS coaching staff, as evidenced by a statement from JHHS head football coach Terrance Blankenship.
“I am pleased with what took place,” said Blankenship, now entering his school-record 14th season. “As always, there were several things that we saw that we need to work on, but overall the effort given by the guys was good, and I thought our guys showed potential for a good season.”
Next Week!
JHHS will open the season by playing Beekman Charter at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 29th at Malone Stadium on the University of Louisiana-Monroe (ULM) campus as part of the annual Bayou Jamb. Tiger fans planning on attending are encouraged to purchase their tickets at Jonesboro-Hodge High School prior to the contest.
“We are asking our fans to purchase tickets to the Bayou Jamb at the school, as all proceeds from ticket sales made at the school go directly to our football program,” said Blankenship. “It is also an advantage for our fans to buy their tickets prior to the game, as they will be discounted from the price they will have to pay at the gate.”
