Keep Moving Jonesboro Forward! That is the theme that the Town of Jonesboro Mayor James “Spike” Harris is using to emphasize the progress, accountability, and forward-looking vision he has provided over the past four years, built on “All Facts, No Fiction”
Mayor J. SPIKE Harris has launched his campaign for re-election, asking the citizens of Jonesboro to continue the work of strengthening the Town’s finances, rebuilding infrastructure, improving public safety and creating greater opportunities for the community.
Running under the themes “Keep Moving Jonesboro Forward” and “All Facts, No Fiction,” Harris says the campaign will focus on measurable progress while presenting a clear vision for Jonesboro’s next chapter.
“When we took office, we understood that turning Jonesboro around would not happen overnight. We made difficult decisions, strengthened accountability, and went to work. Today, we are seeing the results. Our momentum is real, our progress is lasting, and there is still much more work ahead.”
Since taking office in 2023, the Harris administration has worked to strengthen Jonesboro’s financial and operational foundations while pursuing major infrastructure investments. Progress includes addressing inherited financial obligations, strengthening financial controls, installing more than 2,000 new water meters, completing Well #7, advancing water and sewer improvements, improving streets and developing greater in-house capabilities through trained and certified personnel.
Public safety has also remained a priority. The Jonesboro Police Department now provides 24/7 police operations, while investments in personnel, vehicles, training, and equipment, along with increased visibility, continue to strengthen the Town’s public-safety capabilities.
The administration has simultaneously pursued community development and modernization, including improvements to Boys & Girls Club facilities, financial-literacy programming, the Jonesboro Municipal Leadership Academy, improvements related to Jonesboro’s civil-rights history, modernization of municipal operations and technology, and stronger partnerships with parish, state, federal, and private-sector organizations.
Harris said a second term would focus on building upon that foundation rather than slowing the Town’s momentum.
“The next chapter is about taking what we have built and going farther—better streets, stronger water and sewer systems, safer neighborhoods, economic development, housing opportunities, jobs and greater investment in our young people, seniors and families. We must position Jonesboro to compete for opportunity.”
The campaign’s forward-looking agenda includes continued water and sewer modernization, aggressive street rehabilitation, stronger public safety, business and industry recruitment, housing development, expanded community programs and leveraging Jonesboro’s strategic highway, railroad and airport assets to attract investment and jobs.
Harris brings to the office experience as Mayor, former Jonesboro Chief of Police, U.S. Marine, and military veteran.
“This election is bigger than one person. It is about the direction of Jonesboro. We have come too far to stop now. Together, we can keep building a stronger Jonesboro for today—and for the generations that will follow us.”
