Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based framework used in schools to prevent problem behaviors and build a safe, positive school culture through proactive teaching and reinforcement. PBIS shifts the focus to explicitly teaching behavioral expectations, acknowledging positive actions, and using data to guide decisions. Implementing the PBIS framework leads to measurable improvements in schools, including fewer office discipline referrals, suspensions, and expulsions; higher academic performance; better attendance; and improved school climate, safety, and teacher well-being.
