During his three-year playing career at Jonesboro-Hodge High School (2020-2022), Cameron “Chase” Leonard played an integral role in helping JHHS compete in Class 2A, including making a state semifinal appearance, despite being one of the smallest schools in the classification.

Wearing #5 as a “two-way” player for the Tigers, meaning playing on both offense and defense, Leonard compiled career statistics of 25 receptions for 257 yards and 3 touchdowns on offense and 102 solo tackles, 36 assists, 13 tackles for a loss, and 2 forced fumbles on defense.

That prowess earned Leonard a scholarship to Louisiana Christian University (LCU) in Pineville, where he has helped LCU to a 3-0 start this year, including going 2-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, and a #17 ranking in the national NAIA rankings. This includes the first-ever victory by an NAIA school over an NCAA Division I opponent, when the Wildcats beat Northwestern State University to open the season.

Leonard, now a junior at LCU, still wears his favored #5 and is again playing an important role for his team, having had his most productive day as a Wildcat, making 7 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, and 1 pass breakup from his cornerback position to help LCU win 44-27 over Wayland Baptist. On Saturday, September 19th, LCU will travel to Baton Rouge, LA, to play Southern University.
