
Gurvy E. Gunter
December 19, 1939 – October 3, 2026

Gurvy E. Gunter of Jonesboro, LA, passed away on October 3, 2026, at 6:35 am at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS, after a brief illness.
Gurvy was born December 19, 1939, in Goldonna, LA, to Rev. W.E. and Thelma (Rowe) Gunter. At the age of 18, he began his career at the Hodge Paper Mill, which at the time was Continental Can. He remained employed there for 43 years until his retirement in December of 2001 it was then known as Smurfit Stone and he was the Supervisor of the Machine Shop.
Gurvy was an avid horseman, and the Rodeo (especially team roping, although he did ride bulls in his early years) was his lifelong passion. He enjoyed other hobbies through the years such as hunting and fishing, but nothing compared to his love of his horses and the sport of Rodeo. If you ever went by to visit him, you would most likely find him in his favorite chair watching a Rodeo on TV. He was a long-time member of the Jonesboro Hodge Riding Club, where he also began instilling his love for horsemanship into his grandchildren through play days. He also spent time teaching his grandsons to rope and many years with his granddaughter barrel racing.
He had a great love for his children, grandchildren, and adored all of his great-grandchildren tremendously. He loved to share memories with his family of his Rodeo days and reminisce about the memories he had of growing up in Goldonna when he was young with his family. His family later moved to Winnfield and Jonesboro, where his father pastored churches. He also loved to play and sing music, especially the guitar, at church .
Gurvy is survived by his wife of almost 51 years, Sharron (Harvey) Gunter of Jonesboro, his children Machaela Gunter Golden (Gary) of Prairieville, Laura Gunter Boyett (Brian) of Jonesboro, and Richard Summers (Jennifer) of Pontchatoula. Grandchildren: Taylor Summers, Hunter Boyett (Devyn), Courtland Boyett (Katelynn), and Madeline Golden. He had 6 great-grandchildren: Raylie and Raegan Hall, Charleigh Kait and Sawyer Boyett, Wyatt and Lane Boyett. One brother, Rev. Elton Gunter of Calhoun, and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. W. E. and Thelma (Rowe) Gunter, Sisters Jeanette Meeks, Melba Murphy, Lynetta Gunter, and granddaughter Kaitlin Boyett.
A public viewing will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at North Hodge Assembly of God on Thursday, October 8th. His Life Celebration service will take place at 10:00 am on Friday, October 9th at North Hodge Assembly of God, with Bro. Arthur Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Goldonna Cemetery in Goldonna, LA, under the direction of Paradise Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
Pallbearers will be Pat Brunson, Kenneth Carpenter, Kent Roach, Eddie White, Danny Booth, Jeff Murphy, and Drew Watts. Honorary Pallbearers are Courtland Boyett and Hunter Boyett

A graveside service for Mrs. Kay M. Hogan, age 90, of Jonesboro, LA, will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Ebenezer Cemetery in Jonesboro, LA, with Mr. Charles Hogan and Mr. Ricky McBride officiating. Services are under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston, LA.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Jonesboro, LA.
Wanda Ilene McKee

Wanda Ilene McKee passed away peacefully at her home in Shreveport, Louisiana, on October 1, 2026, at the age of 64. A Christian woman with a caring and compassionate heart, Wanda found great joy in her family, especially in the time she spent with her beloved grandchildren. Her love for children extended far beyond her own family, and she devoted many years of her life to nurturing and teaching little ones as a preschool teacher.
Wanda enjoyed listening to all kinds of music and appreciated life’s simple pleasures. Some of her happiest moments were spent fishing or taking peaceful drives through the countryside with her husband, Dennis. Above all, Wanda will be remembered for her love of family, her gentle spirit, and the kindness she so freely shared with the children and people whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis McKee; children, Brandi Creech (Quinton), Kristin Charles (Tony), Crystal McCarty, Blake McKee and Christopher McCarty; sister, Denise Stroud (Kevin); brothers, Tony Perez, Barry Laffite and Richard Laffite; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Wanda was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Laffite; mother, Geneva (Adams) Antee; sister, Kimberly Waterhouse; and brother, Bo Laffite.
A graveside service will be held at Mount Olive East Cemetery near Quitman, on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM.
Pallbearers will be Quinton Creech, Trip Creech, Luke Creech, Tony Charles, Ricky McKee, and Tim McKee.
Polly Ann Griffith
June 5, 1940 – October 3, 2026

Polly Ann (Brimer) Griffith passed away on October 3, 2026 at Forest Haven Nursing Home at the age of 86. Polly had a joyful spirit, a heart of gold, and a love for life that was evident to everyone who knew her. She never met a stranger and always enjoyed visiting with family, friends, and anyone she happened to meet.
Polly loved to dance and enjoyed playing Bingo. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her beloved dogs and cats. She also loved baby dolls and stuffed animals and took great pleasure in collecting chicken figurines. Above all, Polly cherished her family and looked forward to spending time with them, especially at family reunions. Her warm personality, kind heart, and friendly nature will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Polly is survived by her children, Ronald Griffith, Robert Griffith and Rhonda Pittman; grandchildren, Ronald Griffith (Sylvia), Myka Griffith (Christine), Alisha Winters (Joseph), Amber Griffith, Jason Pittman, Chase Pittman, Zach Pittman, Brittany Lowe (Brian) and Alexis Williams; 13 great-grandchildren; and special niece, Karen Bolyer.
She was preceded in death by her father, Calvin Brimer; mother, Katie (Plunkett) Brimer; son, Roland Griffith; siblings, Mildred Bolyer, Shirley Nunn, Linda Harper, Ethel Williams, Dewey Brimer, John Brimer, Gene Brimer, Jerry Brimer; daughter-in-law, Shela Griffith; and special friend, Jerry Lester.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, October 8, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro. The funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 9, in the chapel. Burial will follow in Springhill Cemetery on Walker Road under the direction of Southern-Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Nunn, Carl Jordan, Carey Ray, Casey Ray, Roy Jordan and Scott Harper.
David Eugene Wagar
June 10, 1954 – October 1, 2026

David Eugene Wagar, 72, of Jonesboro, Louisiana, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 1, 2026, after a brief illness.
David was born on June 10, 1954, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Tennyson Burns Wagar and Vacie Gray Burks Wagar. He attended Plain Dealing High School and went on to spend his career working in both the oil field industry and the local school system, earning several awards of excellence before his retirement.
Known for his hard work, devotion to loved ones, and soft-spoken, tender heart, David found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He took immense pride in his yard work, had a lifelong passion for model trains, and loved relaxing with movies and television. He especially enjoyed listening to music by Enya.
David is survived by his wife, Doris “Jean” Ellis Wagar; his sons, Kevin Eugene Wagar and Cristopher Eugene Wagar (Wendy); his stepchildren, Stephen Ellis Doucet (Sarah), Brian Elliot Doucet (Beth), and Jennifer Doucet Babineaux (Philip); sixteen loving grandchildren; his siblings, Martha, Bruce, and Gail; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tennyson and Vacie Wagar; and his siblings, Melvin, Mildred, and Peggy.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Paradise Funeral Home, located at 127 6th Street, Jonesboro, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed immediately by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m.
Graveside services and interment will follow Wednesday afternoon at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Plain Dealing, Louisiana.
