(By: Linda Horn) Super Bee Speedway owners Matt and Casey Takewell ended their first year as track owners by running the 33rd Annual Spooky 50. The “Spooky” is, and always has been, the most anticipated race at the Chatham, LA track each year. This year’s event was packed full of racing action in many forms, family fun, special recognitions, trick-or-treating, good food and fellowship, and an extensive Fireworks display.
Friday, October 16th kicked off with 120 race cars in the pits and a nice crowd of fans in the stands. During the Intermission session between Heat Races and Feature events, awards were presented to Points Champions, and two special awards were presented to two special young men, but that’s a story for another edition.
Winners for Night One were: Factory Stock, Josh Martin (Colfax, LA); Limited Modified, Parker Cloud (Elizabeth, LA); Super Late Models, Jon Mitchell (Texarkana, TX); ProMods, Devin Richards (Monroe,LA); Crate Late Models, Rob Litton (Alexandria, LA); Tuners, Billy Smith (Rocky Branch, LA); Sportsters, Shawn Graham (Shreveport, LA); and Street Stock, Parker Cloud (Elizabeth, LA).
On Saturday, October 17th, 114 race cars and an even larger crowd of race fans filled the stands and lined the fence in lawn chairs. Before the night’s racing action kicked off, the Pit gates opened, allowing Trick or Treaters to visit the drivers and their crew members and fill their bags with candy and merchandise.
Once racing got underway, the cool weather, combined with the smell of race fuel and the feel of engines rumbling the ground, quickly gave everyone in attendance a night they won’t soon forget.
Winners for Night Two were: Factory Stock, Logan Gordan (West Monroe); Limited Modified, Jarred Wallace (Calhoun, LA); Super Late Models, Shane Hebert (Lafayette, LA); ProMods, Cory Nolen (Pitkin, LA); Crate Late Models, Waylon Morris (Bienville, LA); Tuners, Randall Martin (Springtown, TX); Sportsters, Caleb Smith (Chatham, LA); and Street Stock, Parker Cloud (Elizabeth, LA).
This may have been the final race of the 2026 Season at Super Bee Speedway, but the 2027 Season will be here soon, and Matt and Casey Takewell and the entire Staff at Super Bee are already planning and preparing for an even better season next year. As a long-time race fan and someone who understands how easy it is to watch racing from home on a screen, I want to take this opportunity to urge you to consider watching in person next season. Being “in-person” at any race track puts you among friends and family in an exciting environment and gives you a view you don’t get from a screen; it excites your sense of feel with the ground rumbling beneath your feet and your sense of smell as the fuel fragrances fill the air around you. All of that, plus the chance to make new friends, is unbeatable!!
