(Chad Sonnier, LDPS) – The Louisiana Department of Public Safety is pleased to announce that, for its outstanding commitment to protecting lives, serving the community, and promoting fire safety throughout Jackson Parish, this month’s Fire Service Spotlight shines on the Quitman Fire District #1.
Established in 1985 and led by Fire Chief Philip Brown, Quitman Fire District 1 is powered by 30 dedicated volunteer firefighters operating from three fully functional fire stations. Their commitment to excellence is reflected in the district’s impressive PIAL Class 3 rating and its continued investment in emergency response capabilities.
With a fleet that includes Command 1, a specialized brush truck, a fire suppression and rescue UTV, a dedicated rescue truck, and nine pumper/tankers, the district is equipped to respond to a wide range of emergencies, including fires, medical emergencies, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and requests for public assistance.
But their service extends far beyond emergency calls.
Quitman Fire District 1 is committed to building a safer community through fire prevention education, school programs, station tours, and initiatives such as Operation Save a Life, which helps provide homes with working smoke detectors. The district also brings the community together through annual events like Trick or Treat at the Fire Station, creating meaningful connections with local families while promoting safety.
Their dedication to community safety and risk reduction earned them the 2026 Louisiana State Fire Marshal Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Excellence Award, along with multiple grant recognitions supporting equipment improvements, firefighter safety, and community outreach.
Please join us in thanking Fire Chief Philip Brown and his team of dedicated volunteers at Quitman Fire District 1. Your commitment, courage, and willingness to serve make a lasting difference in the lives of the citizens you protect. Thank you for answering the call and going above and beyond for your community!
