The Town of Jonesboro Board of Aldermen called a special session on Tuesday, March 16th where they voted to override Mayor Leslie Thompson’s veto of hiring a part time deputy. The action came after Jonesboro Police Chief James “Spike” Harris reassured the council, that by hiring Sketea Walker on a part time basis, would cut down on overtime pay his department was currently having to endure due to the loss of officers to armed services deployment. The vote was 4-1, with Board members: James Ginn, Robbie Siadek, Pete Stringer and Nia Evans-Johnson agreeing to override the veto, which took place during the regularly scheduled monthly meeting held on March 9th. Devin Flowers voted against the action citing he was following the recommendation of the Town Attorney. As this was the only item on the agenda the meeting was then adjourned.
