Jackson Federation of Teachers and School Employees gives away free books

This month, the Jackson Federation of Teachers and School Employees (JFT-SE) will donate 500 books to Jackson Parish elementary and middle schools in honor of National Reading Month. The Federation has invited the JPSB Members and Superintendent to join them at the School Board Office at 8:00 a.m. Friday to the begin the distribution of over 100 books to each elementary and middle school.

“We hope these books will promote reading and student literacy in our schools. The students of Jackson Parish Schools are our future. The love of reading is a gift we can give a child that will last a lifetime,” said JFT-SE President Brenda Simmons.

JFT-SE worked with the Louisiana Federation of Teachers, the American Federation of Teachers and First Book Marketplace to secure these books for Jackson students.

“I’d like to thank everyone who made this possible,” added President Simmons.

In addition to books, Jackson students will receive customizable book plates, book markers, and masks.
