The first annual, Quitman High School Softball Tournament will be played this Friday and Saturday at the Jackson Parish Recreation Department Complex featuring a field of 16 teams from virtually every classification and division in the LHSAA. Included are six teams that are ranked in the top eight of their respective classes, including tournament host Quitman, which is the #5 ranked team in Class B in the lastest LHSAA power rankings. Three of the top five Class C teams (#1 Calvin, #2 Summerfield, #5 Hicks) and the #8 ranked team in Class 2A and Class C (Winnfield and Plainview) will also be on hand. Class 5A Byrd of Shreveport and Ruston, who has the top rated freshmen in the state, Class 3A Union and Class A Ouachita Christian (OCS), as well as, local and area schools Weston, Choudrant, Saline, Castor and Plainview round out the field.
“We are excited to have some of the top teams in north Louisiana coming for local softball fans to watch,” said Quitman High School head coach and tournament organizer Justin Dobson. “It should make for an entertaining, two full days of games.”
Ten games are slated to be played Friday with three games starting at 4:00pm, three more following at 5:45pm and then four games playing in the nightcap that is expected to begin at 7:30pm. Thirteen contests highlight Saturday action that begins at 10:30am with three games, followed by four games at 12:30. Three more are on slate at 2:30pm with the final three games being played at 4:30pm. Parish schools Weston will open and Quitman will close play both Friday and Saturday with both school playing at 2:30 on Saturday as well. See below for complete tournament schedule. Additional games to be played on Thursday and Friday find JHHS playing a home and home, district 1-2A opening series against D’Arbonne Woods Charter School (DWCS). The Tigers will travel to Farmerville to playa single game on Thursday and then come home to play a double header against the Timberwolves on Friday at the Jackson Parish Recreation Department (JPRD) Complex. Quitman will also travel to Claiborne Christian in Monroe on Friday while Weston will host Many at the JPRD as well. The Weston girls play their final 2B district game of the year against Simsboro at the JPRD on Thursday starting at 4:00pm.
