Luke Morgan took one square in the back and Joshua Smith loaded up Quitman onto his back to carry the Wolverines past Doyline 1-0 in ten innings. With the victory Quitman improves to 19-11 and will now travel to #3 Elizabeth later in the week for the Class B Quarterfinal matchup.
LITTLE BIG MAN! Morgan, who reached all five times he came to the plate, opened the bottom of the tenth by doing what he has done a north Louisiana best 11 other times this season – getting plunked. The team’s leading hitter with a .506 average then did something else that he has done more than any other player in north Louisiana and tops in Class B when he stole his 41st base of the year. That set up back to back single from Riley Duck and Ian Tilley, the latter bringing Morgan home for the victory.
INCREDIBLY EFFICIENT PITCHING PEFORMANCE! The old adage in baseball is your opponent can’t win if they cant’ score. In one of the finest pitching performances of the year Smith never let a runner past second, struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter – all in a herculean effort of ten innings of work. Perhaps the most amazing stat of the game was that Smith threw only 102 pitches of which 77 were strikes.
