Quitman sweeps top honors on district 2B All District Softball team

Cali Deal was voted as Most Valuable Player and head coach Justin Dodson was named Coach of the Year in district 2B with Maggie Guyotte, Maddie Kaye Brymer and Madison Chaplin also earning first team All District honors.  Weston High had three named to the first team as well in Alexia Barmore, Emma Kate McBride and Macie Hall. 

Despite being only in the eighth grade, Deal was an easy choice for MVP among coaches from Quitman, Weston, Choudrant and Simsboro following hercali deal 1 extraordinary initial campaign as a varsity player. Offensively, Deal hit a team leading .495 with 13 doubles, 4 triples, 4 home runs, 32 RBI, 40 runs scored and 16 stolen bases. On the mound the lanky lefty compiled a 15-6 overall record, two no-hitters and a sparkling 1.68 ERA. In 133 innings Deal struck out 181 batters including an eight inning, 18 K effort against Grant High, who was ranked #1 in Class 3A at the time. 

dodsonDodson was named Coach of the Year after leading Quitman to the district 2B title in undefeated fashion and the Class B state semifinals. The 27-8 record this year gives Dodson a 49-21 record in his three years at the helm as head coach of the Lady Wolverines.

Sophomore Maddie Kaye Brymer hit .455 on the year and her  59 RBI not only led Quitman but was tops in Class B.  Her 7 home runs tied fellow first team, designee Maggie Guyotte, who being only in the 7th grade was the youngest player selected to the elite squad. Guyotte also led the team with 15 doubles and batted .436 on the year. Freshman Madison Chaplin hit .343 and led Quitman and Class B with 55 runs scored and 31 stolen bases.

Alexia “Lexi” Barmore led Weston with a .439 batting average, 36 hits, three triples and 38 runs scored while Macie Hall hit .351, and a team leading 5 home runs and 31 RBI. Emma Kate McBride batted .352 that included 12 extra base hits and a team best nine stolen bases. 

Madeline Vail (.375, 36 RS, 23 SB, 22 RBI) and Skylar Hall (.343, 29 RSA, 24 SB, 23 RBI) of Quitman along with Audrey Welch (.342, 24RS, 28 RBI) and Mallory Tolar (.370, 10-2B, 25 RS, 23 RBI) of Weston also received honorable mention recognition.
