Luke Morgan and Cali Deal of Quitman along with Davis Tolar of Weston has been named 1st team All-State in Class B as announced by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. Joshua Smith and Madison Brymer, both from Quitman earned Honorable Mention Designation.
The two junior catchers joined Class B Outstanding Player, Braden Jones and teammate Brandon Carter of state champion Choudrant to give district 2B the distinction of placing more players to the first team than any other in Class B. Morgan led Quitman with a .481 batting average and all of Class B with 41 steals. His 40 runs scored and 33 bases on balls also were top five classification statistics The strong armed Tolar gunned down an impressive 15 base runners this spring while making only 3 errors in 136 chances for an outstanding .978 fielding average while also hitting .351 on the year.
One of only two 8th graders chosen to the elite team, Deal exploded onto the softball scene by batting .500 on the year. She also led the Class B, state semifinalist, Lady Wolverines with an outstanding 15-6 record that included 181 strikeouts in just 133 innings and a microscopic 1.68 ERA.
Brymer led Quitman with 59 RBI and tied for the team lead with 7 homeruns while batting .455 on the year. Smith hit .325 and was 6-5 on the mound with a 3.38 ERA. All five losses came against teams that either played for or won a state championship.
