His star is rising! Former West Ouachita High School and LSU star, Zach Watson, is “moving on up” in the Baltimore Orioles organization. The son of Sonny and Stacie Watson, who hails from Jackson Parish, earned the promotion to the Class AA affiliate Bowie Baysox following his stellar season to date with the Class A+ affiliate Aberdeen Ironbirds.
At the time of his promotion the outfielder, who was the top pick in the third round of the 2019 major league baseball draft, was leading the team in hits, runs and RBI’s. Watson ranked second on the team in triples, homeruns, stolen bases and slugging percentage.
As good as his offensive statistics are his stellar defensive play in the outfield is even more impeccable. So far this season, Watson has fielded all 119 of his chances without making a an error. This continues and incredible a three year, flawless streak that now stretches to 205 straight successful chances over 844 innings played.
