It has been a banner year to date for the Quitman Junior High boys and girls basketball teams. Under the tutelage of head coaches Mike Black and Kyle Leach the junior Wolverines are just one point from both teams navigating the first 20 games of their combined schedule in undefeated fashion after both won thier games at the Claiborne Christian Tournament held this pastweekend.
The Quitman boys ran their record to a perfect 10-0 by taking out Choudrant 31-5 while the girls improved to 9-1 by downing the Lady Aggies 28-4. The QJH 6th grade boys and girls saw action as well with the boys winning their game against the tournament host and the girls falling by one point to Claiborne Christian in overtime.
Eight players scored in the boys contest led by Brayden Smith and Brayden Martin who nine and seven points respectively. Abel Leach and Taden Thomas added four and three each followed by two points apiece from Larson Boston, Jayden Harts, Landen Boston and Siler Nelson. In the girls game, assistant coach April Simonelli expertly took the reins for head coach Kyle Leach who was out after contracting RSV. Maggie Guyotte led the way with 11 points followed by Anna Leach with nine. Hallie Kate Pullig added four with Kinsley Ponder and Addison Fenn tallying two each.
Local fans will get a rare opportunity to see the two top Jackson Parish junior high squads in action at home, along with a bonus treat, when QJH hosts Choudrant on Tuesday, September 21st. The extra provided is being able to also catch the boys and girls 6th grade teams in action as well. The 6th grade girls will tip off action beginning at 4:00pm followed by the 6th grade boys, junior high girls and junior high boys contests.
The home games, which are the second to last on the schedule this year, follows a Monday contest at Calvin that is slated to begin at 5:00pm. School offiicials ask that you observe COVID-19 safety protocal by wearing a mask and practicing social distancing guidelines.
