A close game at the half turned into a 38-15 rout of Cedar Creek as Quitman Junior High put the finishing touches on their perfect 15-0 season record. In the opening game, the QJH girls rolled past the Lady Cougars 39-25 to win their 13th game in 14 starts, with the only setback this season being by one point loss in double overtime earlier in the year.
“This has been one of the more enjoyable seasons I have ever been a part of,” said long-time coach Kyle Leach. “Our boys and girls are a great group of kids “
QJH 38 Cedar Creek 15 (boys): What coach Mike Black said to his squad at the half isn’t known but whatever it was it worked wonders as the Wolverines outscored Cedar Creek 22-2 in the third and fourth quarter’s. It especially fired up Brayden Martin who scored 8 of his game high 12 points to lead the charge. Ethan Johnson and Braden Martin, who scored six in the contest, also responded with four second half points. Asher Schultz chipped in with five in the game while Taden Thomas and Kace West scored a basket each. Abel Leach had paced the Wolverines with seven first half points to help lift QJH to a 16-13 halftime advantage.

QJH 39 Cedar Creek 25 (girls): Quitman jumped out to a five point, first quarter lead and never looked back as the starting five turned in one of their better equal scoring efforts to account for all but two points. Maggie Guyotte and Hallie Kate Pullig tallied in each quarter to finish with ten points and eight points respectively. Anna Leach added seven and both Emma Walker and Taylor Borland chipped in with six. Kinsley Ponder also scored a fourth quarter basket to round out the scoring.
