Recreation Board makes move to govern spending

Following a lengthy executive session, the Jackson Parish Recreation Board unanimously voted to restrict the amount that purchase orders could be written for without prior board approval to $1000.00. The action was taken by Recreation Board President Brent Barnett, Ricky Cash, Jeff Hairston, Chris Womack and Sullivan Stevens during the regular scheduled monthly meeting held on Monday, October 18 at the Banquet Room of the Jackson Parish Golf Course Clubhouse. Rod Potts and Brandon Lamkin were absent. 

The private session followed Jackson Parish Recreation Department Director Tommy Smith providing updates on the ongoing Cart Shed and Spillway Projects at the Golf Course. Smith indicated that the dirt pad was now ready for construction to proceed on the new Golf Cart Shed to be built and that work to repair the spillway was set to begin next week. Updates on the flag football and soccer games that are being played each Tuesday and Thursday as well as usage of the Archery Range and biking trails. Discussion also took place about the possibility that soon skeet shooting may be able to be offered and the desire to see bikiig and/or motocross clubs be formed. The meeting began with the Board agreeing to accept the amended 2021 budget and the proposed 2022 budget.
