Police Jury to make purchase of new Solid Waste Trailer

Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. That was the scenario that Operations Manager, Brad Roller painted to the Jackson Parish Police Jury this past Monday evening during their regularly scheduled “Business Meeting” on December 6th in the Nathaniel Zeno Meeting Room of the Jackson Parish Police Jury Administration Building, located at 162 Industrial Drive in Jonesboro.

Roller advised Jury members Todd Culpepper, Amy Magee, John McCarty, Tarneshala “Niki” Cowans and Regina Rowe that a new 48’ trailer needed to be purchased immediately to replace the one that had been totaled in a wreck last month. Lewis Chatham and Lynn Treadway were absent.

The reasoning stated for the recommended quick action was several. First and foremost the lead time for a “piggy-back” bid purchase of a new trailer was usually 12 months. There is currently another trailer available but only a 5 day hold time was allowed before it would be sold somewhere else. With the impact of surplus waste from the holidays it is expected that without the trailer that there would be a negative impact on the Solid Waste Departments ability to haul all the waste out of the parish. As result the board agreed to pay Performance Trailer out of Houston, TX the amount of $89,700.96 for a 48’ trailer.
In additional action it was recommended to amend the Organization Chart to have the Operations Manager report to the Secretary/Treasurer and be over the Maintenance, Road and Solid Waste Departments.

Discussion on the elevator modernization project was held and it was recommended to enter into several Cooperative Endeavor Agreements. In final action, defunding the Hospital Drainage Project and the bid results for the Courthouse HVAC project was discussed as well as the preliminary 2002 budget and 2021 amendments to be made.
