There was a time that when the Christmas break from school started it meant that the prep teams would play almost every day, even sometimes on Christmas Day. Those days are long gone as now the players and coaches get to celebrate the holidays like everyone else as the season shuts down for a couple of weeks.
The three Jackson Parish schools will play their final games before the break with Jonesboro-Hodge playing a couple of boys contests at the Ruston Tournament. The girls team will not be in action. Quitman will hit the road one night and then turn around and host a team the next with Weston hosting Calvin on Friday.
Jonesboro-Hodge has a tall task ahead of them as they will be missing 6’6″ Tydre Malone and 6’3″ Devontae Mozee who are participating the in 1-20 Bowl at the Ruston Tourney. This is not a good time to be missing front court players for the 5-1 Tigers as they will face Class 5A Parkway and Class 5A Southwood, who boast a solid 6’5″ and a 6’10” post presence respectively.
It stands to reason that Quitman will have an easy time of it in both boys and girls action at Dodson. The Panthers are 1-16 on the year and enduring a 14 game losing streak, while the Dodson girls are still searching for that elusive first victory this year after 18 attempts, stretching their two year streak of futility to 26 straight. The next night Quitman will host Cedar Creek.
Weston will have their hands full by entertaining an angry bunch of Cougars who fell to Choudrant 56-54 the other night for their first loss of the year after 16 straight wins. The girls will look to end the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule on a good note after dropping five of their last six games.
