School Board tackles agenda of high interest at Monday meeting

There are agendas. Then there are AGENDAS. The Jackson Parish School Board will be hard pressed to find one of more interest and highly charged than the one they tackled this Monday during their regularly scheduled February meeting.

Other than the regular payment of bills, awarding of contracts and acceptance of committee reports, board members Gerry Mims, Ricky McBride, Dennis Clary, Vice President Calvin Waggoner, President Gloria Davis, Mary Saulters and Wade McBride dealt with three items, each very important but in different ways.

First was in respect to the way the Board handled the accounting in 2021 and the news couldn’t have been better. In summary, the 2021 Audit Report given by Matthew Margaglio of Kolder, Slaven and Company, out of Alexandria showed no internal control issues and not a single non-compliance finding.

Next for the Board to approve was the proposed redrawing of lines in regard to the districts of each board member. As there was only a minimal amount of movement in the lines from before that does little effect to each district, board members were quick to provide their approval.

Then came the highly charged issue of COVID Protocols and what three visitors had to say about it. For more on this see the separate article in Jackson Parish Journal: Parents plea for change in Covid Contact Protocol at school responded to.
