Thirty-eight Tour Bass Pro’s to fish Caney Lake on Wednesday

The most heralded day in the illustrious history of Caney Lake in Jackson Parish has finally arrived with 38 Major League Fishing (MLF) professional’s blasting off from the Caney Creek Spillway public launch at 8:30 am on Wednesday in hopes of winning the “Knockout Round” of the Pro Bass Tour season opener. Takeout time when all fish will be weighed will take place at 5:50pm at the launch.

The Jackson Parish Watershed District (JPWD) has approved to close the spillway parking lot and boat ramp from 12:00am to 9:00 pm for this event. This decision was made for the safety of the professional anglers, camera crew, event staff and the public in attendance.

Drive up spectators will be allowed to park down the spill way road and walk to the event area. Spectators in boats are also welcome but please stay a safe distance of the boat launch area in order to give all the professional anglers clearance for the blast off and return. A no wake zone for inside of spillway boat launch area cove has been instilled.

MLF encourages the public to attend this event on Caney Lake and cheer for your favorite angler(s).
The public is invited to come see the anglers, participate in opening prayer, national anthem and then watch the anglers blast off at the spill way boat launch at 8:30 am. The anglers will be returning back to the boat launch at 5 pm with the Takeout Ceremony planned for 5:30 pm. The public will also be able to meet the anglers and get autographs at this time.

Eighty of the top fishermen in the world began the six-day tournament by fishing D’Arbonne Lake in two 40-man groups. Group A fished on Saturday and Monday with Group B fishing on Sunday and Tuesday. Mark Daniels Jr. is headed straight to the Championship Round on Bussey Brake after winning Group A with a 16 fish stringer that weighed 33lb. 5oz total over the two days. The winner of Group B will also bypass the “Knockout Round” on Caney Lake, that will host those who finished 2nd-20th place from both groups.
