usic lovers rejoice! After decades of there being none the first step in having a band on the high school level in Jackson Parish was approved by the Jackson Parish School Board when they voted to pay a band director.
The action to pay a stipend of $2,000.00 as compensation for extra hours worked as a band director was agreed upon by board members Gloria Davis, Calvin Waggoner, Dennis Clary, Rickey McBride, Gerry Mims, Mary Saulters and Wade McBride at their regular scheduled monthly meeting held on Monday, April 4th.
Still undetermined is if the move means that all three parish high schools will offer band, just one as before, or will there be one band that will represent all the schools. A main factor in determining this will be the ability to find qualified candidates.
In additional action, a new redistricting plan (Redistricting Plan #5) in regard to school board member districts was approved which amends the one (Redistricting Plan #4) agreed on back in February. The job description of an IT Technician Assistant, to be paid from Title 1 District level funds, was also agreed upon as well as the approval for out of state travel for Madison Taylor and Niki St. Clair to travel to Nashville, TN for the National Beta Convention on June 30-July 3, 2022. Expenses are to be paid by the Quitman High School Beta fund.
Payment of the normal monthly financial outlay relating to the General Fund, Federal Program, Food Service, Sales Tax, Special Education and District Maintenance bills and the agreement to seek bids on the Jonesboro Hodge Elementary School Stabilization Project concluded the actions taken.
