A Tiger once, will now become a Tiger twice. The only difference for Jonesboro-Hodge High School standout baseballer, Marcus Thompson Jr., is that next year instead of being a JHHS Tiger he will be a ETBU Tiger.
ETBU stands for East Texas Baptist University located in Marshall, TX who has offered Thompson the opportunity to continue his baseball career in college. ETBU is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), competing at the Division III level.
Joining the American Southwest Conference (ASC) in 1998, ETBU competes in the ASC East Division which includes LeTourneau University (Longview, Texas), Belhaven University (Jackson, Miss.), University of the Ozarks (Clarksville, Ark.), and the University of Texas-Dallas (Richardson, Texas).
The West Division consists of Concordia University-Texas (Austin, Texas), Hardin-Simmons University (Abilene, Texas), Howard Payne University (Brownwood, Texas), Sul Ross State University (Alpine, Texas), McMurry University (Abilene, Texas), and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Belton, Texas).
In 13 games this season Thompson has compiled a .357 batting average with four doubles one triple, 8 RBI and 12 runs scored while also stealing 10 bases. The “cannon-arm” centerfielder has also registered a .958 fielding percentage having made just one error in 24 chances and throwing out four runners on base including two at the plate against North Caddo last week.
