What young child doesn’t enjoy being around a Helicopter, Fire Truck, Ambulance, K-9 unit dog or a bulldozer? It would be a great time to see a demonstration of just one but thanks to representatives of E911, Jackson Parish Sheriff Office (JPSO) K-9 unit, Jackson Parish Ambulance Service District (JPASD), Pafford Air-Medic, Jonesboro Fire Dept., Ward 4 Fire District and the Louisiana Forestry Service these fortunate youth got to see them all in one day.
The FUN DAY, sponsored by the Ward 4 Fire District started with the class going to the Ward 4 Fire Dept. facility where they were greeted by Sparky the Fire Dog. The students were then entertained by the E911 Division with an array of fun activities; which included learning when and how to call 911, playing an active game of “911” and listening to a dramatic reading of “It’s time to call 911.”,
Next they watched a K-9 demonstration, gently pet the visiting K-9), learn fire safety procedures and calming techniques along with Stop, Drop and Roll. From there they got to see the inside of an Ambulance and received a walk around tour of a Medical Helicopter and a Forestry Bulldozer.
After the demonstrations and tours the students were able to burn off some energy by playing on an inflatable slide and in a jump house. The students, teachers and all guests were then treated to a delicious lunch of grilled burgers, chips, cookies, ice cream and soft drinks/water. After lunch they played on the slide and in the bounce house again.
Each student was then given a goody bag which consisted of coloring books, crayons, ambulance hats, frisbees, lollipops, firemen hats, paw patrol gummy snacks, sheriff badges, sheriff peel off stickers and 911 stick signs. At the conclusion of the Fun Day the teachers and students were driven back to the campus of Weston High School in Ward 4 Fire Trucks.
