Michael Kent Murphy
May 2, 1947 – May 17, 2022
Mr. Michael Kent Murphy passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 after a brief illness. Mr. Murphy was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time on Kepler Lake in Bienville Parish. He loved his grandchildren unconditionally and enjoyed spending time with them whenever possible. Known to be a precise individual, Mr. Murphy was well-suited for his job as a machinist at Stone Container in Hodge. He was well-respected by his co-workers. Mr. Murphy served his country in the Louisiana Army National Guard.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-two years, Janis (Ponder) Murphy; sons, Tim Murphy and Melinda, and Brian Murphy; brother, Bobby Murphy; grandchildren, Chloe Murphy, Lane Krickel, Emme Murphy, Michael Murphy and Willa Murphy; and mother-in-law, Colleen Ponder.
Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents, James Elmer and Maggie (Cathey) Murphy; brothers, Prentis Murphy, Louie Murphy and James Murphy; sisters, Dean Zerbe, Betty Savage and Ann Ward; and father-in-law, Lamar Ponder.
His funeral service will be on Friday, May 20, 2022 at North Hodge Assembly with Brother Geary Phillips and Brother Chad Bates officiating. Burial followed at Garden of Memories in Jonesboro.
Serving the family as pallbearers was Toby Borland, Lane Krickel, Derek Sanders, Jeff Murphy, Dusty Jordan, Daryl Savage, Hayden Savage and Benny Ponder. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Turner, Scott Savage, David Savage, John Murphy, and Danny Ponder.
