If you drive along Industrial Drive in Jonesboro you will notice a flurry of activity taking place at the South Oxidation Pond. What is taking place is the removal of the old aerators wihich will be replaced with new ones, rehabilitation of the surrounding levee and the installation of manholes on and around the levee.
The project, which is hoped to be completed sometime in August, is being funded by the 1.2 million dollar Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) grant the town received earlier in the year. Womack and Sons Construction Company out of Harrisonburg, LA is performing the work.
“We are pleased at the progress being made on this project,” said Jonesboro Public Works Director Calvin Wortham. “When completed the pond will be back to original working specifications.”
