On June 4th, the Edwin Brown Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4317 in Jonesboro presented their annual Safety Awards to three local first responders. Recognized by Post Commander Phillip Lawrence was:
Johnny Horton, Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office – Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
Jimmy Bryan, Jackson Parish Ambulance Service – Emergency Medical Service Person of the Year
Philip Brown, Quitman Fire Chief – Firefighter of the Year
“Although these are annual awards, in a larger sense, they are career awards for their decades of service to our community as well,” said Lawrence. “It is an honor to recognize these three for their courage, dedication and devotion to duty.”
Bryan, who served two tours of duty and continues to serve as a Lieutenant in the US Navy Reserve, was also presented plaques for being the top Emergency Medical Service Peson in District 11 and for placing second overall in state competition.
“There are thousands of emergency medical personnel in Louisiana. His performance at the state competition simply acknowleged what locally we already knew – that Jimmy Bryan is one of the elite in the life saving arena,” beamed Lawrence.
