The regularly scheduled monthly meeting held on Monday, June 13th, by the board members of the Jackson Parish Museum and Fine Arts Association had a short agenda but was long on discussion. Most of the brainstorming was focused on ways to get more people to visit on Saturdays.
During the week the Museum, that is located at 515 S Cooper Ave. in Jonesboro, is open by appointment only but every Saturday, from 9:00am – 1:00pm the doors are always open for the public to visit. Only no one hardly ever comes.
“The Museum has some tremendous resources and is a wonderful way to learn about the history of Jackson Parish but hadly anyone ever comes,” said Museum Board President Barbara Johnson. “We would like to see that change.”
Following that discussion, President Johnson informed board members James Fitzpatrick, Wilda Smith, Ben Ledbetter and Melinda Garrett that a new board member is needed to replace Mark Culpepper, whose term has expired.
“We are going to miss Mark and the contributions that he made during his time on the board,” said Johnson. “Hopefully we will find someone who is as passionate about preserving our history as he was.”
The next scheduled meeting will take place on August 15th.
