
Three local students reaped the rewards of an outstanding high school career this past week when they represented Jackson Parish at the National Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) FBLA Leadership Conference in Chicago, IL.
Competing in the Entrepreneurship division was Honesty Poland and Serenity Mallard from Jonesboro-Hodge High School. Gabe McMillan of Weston High competed in Computer Problem Solving. Accompanying the group was JHHS Principal, Chevonda Williams.
The conference was held Held at the McCormick Place Convention Center from June 29th – July 2nd. While there the local contingent not only got to meet other students from all over the nation but experience what the city of Chicago has to offer. Activities included a shoreline sightseeing riverboat tour and going to several historical landmarks and recognized areas of the city.
Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is the high school division of Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc. FBLA helps high school students prepare for careers in business through academic competitions, leadership development, and educational programs.
By the end of their FBLA experience, it is the goal that every member will:
(1) Develop an understanding of what it means to lead
(2) Understand fundamental business principles and how business impacts all sectors
(3) Demonstrate the ability to use technical skills to solve problems
(4) Create a post-graduation career plan
