Is there a way that finishing second can make you first? The answer is yes, when it involves the brackets of the Little League 8U “Coach Pitch” and 10U All-Star State Tournaments that will be played from July 8-11 at the Broussard Sports Complex at St. Julien Park, located at 701 St. Nazaire Road in Broussard, LA.
Both parish squads will play the first game of their respective state tournaments, which this year is at the same park. In one respect it is good for family and fans who are traveling to see the teams play as both teams are in the same location. In another, it is not so good as the way the brackets are drawn depending on their success or lack of thereof, the two Jackson Parish teams are slated to play at the same time all throughout the tournament.
In both tournaments, the field is made up of the champion and runner-up from Little League Districts 3, 5 and 6 which will play in a true double elimination format to determine the state champion. Both local teams are scheduled to play the District 6 champion from Lake Charles at 6:00 pm on Friday. The JP8U team will play on Field 3 of the Blue Pod while the JP10U team will be on Field 6. A victory has either team playing District 3 Champion Vidalia at 8:00am on Saturday, while a loss sets up a match against the loser of Game 4 at 4:00pm the same day.
